Child labor a parent's perspective: a case study of hundred ends farm Makonde district
Abstract
Child labor issues have become rampant worldwide especially in Agricultural societies. Globally, regionally and at National level, Countries have tried to mitigate the challenging issues of child labor yet empirical evidence proves the prevalence of child labor is increasing. Makonde District as an Agricultural area has not been spared from the issues of child labor. The research investigated, analyzed and discussed parental perceptions on factors associated with child labor on Commercial Farms using the population and sample from Hundred Ends Farm in Makonde District. The researcher reviewed literature from other scholars to locate gap marks and it has come to the fore that many works on child labor have been done in rural community areas and in different societies from the one this research was carried in. A qualitative framework was adopted for this study to understand the contextual factors and situations that impact the behavior and views of parents on child labor. A qualitative framework is good at describing and understanding human behavior and construction of social life. The research found out that child labor issues on commercial farms are mainly due to poverty and low income of a household which then leads to the need for children to supplement the household income through wage labor. Child labor laws and policies have been put in place but they seem not effective in the commercial farms societies due to lack of enforcement of these laws hence the final conclusion of the research is that there is need to create policies and laws that directly punishes child labor perpetrators
